The Saskatoon & District Soccer Referee Association Inc. (SDSRAI) has now made available online training for anyone wanting to be a soccer referee. By proceeding onto the SDSRAI website, you can register online to obtain access to our online training. The online training is extremely easy and user-friendly to learn the IFAB laws of the game.
- Proceed to https://canada-soccer.myshopify.com/collections/referee to purchase the Referee Entry Level Course Access Key. Please make sure the email entered for your purchase does not contain typos. Make sure to also choose the appropriate language package (English or French). There is a cost to purchase your Referee Entry Level Course Access Key.
- Upon completion of your purchase, you will be emailed an Access Key. Go to the https://canadasoccer.smarteru.com/remote-login/login.cfm where you will register with Canada Soccer and create your account.
- Once you have completed your registration, you will now gain access to the online materials.
- You must complete all 9 modules. Some of the modules will have Checks for Understanding (upgraded) and Quizzes (graded). You will have two attempts to obtain a passing grade for a Quiz (80%). If you are unsuccessful, you will need to repeat the module.
- Upon completion of the Entry Level Course Modules, you will receive an email confirming the completed module. Please save this email as it may be required to confirm your eligibility with the SDSRAI. You must complete your online modules 7 days prior to the scheduled in-person entry-level clinic date.
How much does it cost to register to become a soccer referee?
The online training is free! You will need to proceed to the SDSRAI website and register for the entry-level clinic. If you have a player RAMP account, you can use the same username and password to create your referee RAMP account. Once you have completed creating your referee RAMP account. You will then need to register in two different places prior to completing the online course.
How much does it cost to register to become a soccer referee?
The online training is free! You can register and complete the training. To be assigned games by the referee assignor. You will need to complete the online course & in-classroom portion of the entry-level clinic.
Youth Referee: Entry Level Course Cost $200* (Ages 14-15 years)
District Referee: Entry Level Course Cost $220* (Age 16+ years)

Registering for in-person entry-level clinic.
By proceeding to the SDSRAI website you will need to register for the in-person portion of the entry-level clinic. Click on “Referee Registration” and start by creating your referee RAMP account. If you have a player RAMP account, you can also use your username and password. Once you have created your referee RAMP account, please follow the screenshots below.
How much time do I have to complete the online training?
There is a timeline as to when you need to complete your online training. Completion of the online course is expected to be completed by September 13th, 2024.
What do I do when I have completed the online training?
Once completed your online training, you will receive a confirmation email from Google classrooms stating the completion of your training. You will then need to send your confirmation email to Frank Laterza via email (flaterzaSDSRAI@hotmail.com).
When do I start refereeing after completion of online training?
As soon as the SDSRAI has received your confirmation email stating the completion of your entry-level clinic training. You will then be directed to the Saskatoon Adult Soccer Referee Assignor to create your referee RAMP account. After your referee RAMP account has been created you will then be assigned games to referee. The SDSRAI will then book a referee mentor for you to go out and watch games prior to refereeing. This is to allow anyone to ask questions and visually see what refereeing is about. New referees will start refereeing in the age category of U11.
How much do I get paid as a soccer referee?
When starting off as a referee, you will be officiating in U11 games. Your payment as a referee will be determined by which season you start in:
Outdoor game fee U11 $23.00 per game.*
Indoor game fee U11 $23.00 per game.*
Game fee variance adjusted due to division structure.
* The fee is dependent upon the Agreement with SAS/SDSRAI/SYS and may change.
I do not feel comfortable refereeing my first game by myself…
No need to worry. The SDSRAI provides referee mentors to be present at your first game. It does not cost the referee anything to have a mentor present at your game. It is a service the SDSRAI provides to its referees. Mentors are there to help you and answer any questions you may have.
How do I move up as a referee to officiate higher-level games and how many games can I referee?
There are several key items for an individual to move up as a referee.
Performance, Fitness, Assessments.
Good assessments based on your referee performance help with moving up as a referee. Pending on the availability you set, will determine how many games you receive. Usually, two (2) games a night.
