Power Chair Soccer

We are thrilled to introduce Power Chair Soccer to our Indoor 2025-2026 season!

Power Chair Soccer (also known as Power Soccer or Powerchair Football) is a competitive, fast-paced team sport specifically designed for individuals who use power (electric) wheelchairs.

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE GAME

The Players

Teams are typically composed of four players on the court at a time (including the goalkeeper). Classification is based on the player's skill in operating their chair rather than their specific disability, ensuring a level playing field.

The Equipment

Chair: Players use their own power wheelchairs.
The Footguard: The most distinctive piece of equipment is a metal "footguard" attached to the front of the wheelchair. This is used to strike, block, and manipulate the ball.
The Ball: The game is played with a large, 13-inch (33 cm) soccer ball, making it easier to hit and see.
The Court: The game is played on a standard-sized futsal field.

The Game & Rules

The objective is simple: to maneuver the ball with your footguard and score more goals than the opposing team.
Two 20-minute halves make up a game.
There are rules for safety, such as the "two-on-one" rule (to prevent goal-hanging) and regulations on chair-to-chair contact to prevent dangerous collisions.
Set plays include kick-ins and corner kicks, similar to traditional soccer.

The game is characterized by its strategic depth, requiring teamwork, precise chair maneuvering, spatial awareness, and quick decision-making. It is a sport of skill, not brute force.
